Frequently Asked Questions
Below, are questions that I've been asked most frequently over the years. I'll chage these now and then if I find that newer questions are being asked on a regular basis.
What about continuing education?
The technology in our field changes so fast now that taking classes or webinars on a monthly basis is a must. I recently attained my Residential Network Specialist Certificate. So many devices are now using the home networks so I felt this was a necessary step. I also attend our industries annual trade show called CEDIA to see what new products are in the pipeline.
What do you like most about your job?
Meeting new people and the long term relationships that have been created over many years and doing multiple projects with clients.
Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
Half of my projects have to do with Interactive security or security cameras. I think this is because so many people like the convenience of their smartphones. Being able to arm/disarm your security or know if you've left a door open via txt and checking your cameras is just something that most people have come to expect.
Why does my work stand out from others?
I think the main thing I do is listen to what the client wants. I feel listening is a lost art. Having been in the automation industry since 1995, I've seen several incidents when small details were overlooked in a project. Knowing in advance what to ask and providing suggestions ahead of construction helps prevent these headaches from popping up later.
